Learn the basics of a new outdoor skill on First Fridays! This year-round program offers different program topics each month lead by a variety of instructors. Programs include archery, fire building, hiking, geocaching, kayaking, and more! Sign up for all 12 First Friday classes and save!

Quarter 2 December 2: Fire building (We will start small with the art of the no-match fire, learn what to carry with you while hiking and how to build a fire to relax in front of, with no accelerant) January 6: Outdoor Cooking (We will different cooking methods including types of outdoor stoves, and will make a few delicious treats for ourselves) February 3: Navigating Trails (How to read a map, topography, basic compass use, and trail markers)
March 3: Nature Photography (Learn Nature Photography basics from an experienced photographer who takes photos for the Missouri Botanical Gardens) April 7: Bird ID Hike (Hike with an experienced birder who will discuss some basics of birding, how to identify bird calls and what resources they use to identify birds) May 5: Wildflower Hike and ID (Find some of the best trails for wildflower hikes, how to slow down and smell the native species and what resources we use to ID on the move)
June 2: Fishing (Learn the basics of fishing; from how to tie and bait the hook and where to cast your reel, to how to remove the fish and what to have in your tackle box) July 7: Kayaking 101 (Intro to Kayaking includes how to enter/exit the boat, different boats, holding the paddle properly, and types of turns) August 4: Stand Up Paddleboards/SUP (Jump into the world of SUP and learn how to stand up, and where to enjoy this hobby)
Pay a little more and help others enjoy learning and fun with Community Ed! Each of our adult programs includes an option to ‘pay a little more'. All funds raised help to provide enriching and engaging experiences for youth, families, and adults in need of financial assistance.
Gold Card members (Parkway and Rockwood district residents ages 60 and older) receive a 50% discount for this class. The discounted rate will automatically be applied at checkout. You must have a Gold Card issued in your name to receive the discounted rate. If you do not have a Gold Card and would like to request one, complete an online request form. Silver Card members (residents outside of the Parkway and Rockwood districts ages 60 and older) receive a 15% discount for this class. The discounted rate will automatically be applied at checkout. You must have a Silver Card membership to receive the discounted rate (you will not receive a physical card). If you are not registered for a Silver Card and would like to register, complete this online request form. Note: the Silver card does not provide free/reduced admission to Parkway or Rockwood High School sponsored events.
